I was one of those from Beach Dreams (Lovely day!)

Before moving to Shoreham about 12yrs ago I used to live in Emsworth and sail in Chitchester harbour and the Solent etc.

I'm very interested in getting back out on the water, and by crewing on Sundays will be a great way of resurrecting my passion or the sea.

The club had a lot of interest on the 2014 Beach Dreams festival display stand and at the Club Open Day from people seeking a chance to discover if they want to take up sailing at SYC, and as a first step they have been asked to join this forum and post up their details. I have asked them to explain any sailing experience they might have and anything else that might help me match them to a skipper and boat for a Sundays' racing.

If you are thinking of signing up, there's no need to post your private contact details on the forum as we can get in touch with you using forum messaging system.

I'll be monitoring the entries here and will be introducing these potential new members and sailors to skippers who can help them understand what an amazing sport we play. I would like to get the first placements sorted out by the first week of July so participants can get out on the water, conditions permitting, from Summer Series 3 onwards which is 6 June.

So come on folks, if you have an itch to try sailing with us sign up right here, right now!

30 year old, who has done a fair amount of sailing over the years in both dinghies and yachts of varying sizes. This has been a mixture of both cruising and racing. I've done around 2500 miles, with a mixture of offshore and inshore sailing.

I'm flexible in terms of ad hoc crewing for races/cruising or on a more permanent basis (series by series) if possible.

I'm also currently available this bank holiday weekend should anyone be looking for crew (2nd-5th May).

Rallies at Sussex Yacht Club / Solent Rally

The start of the rally season is finally almost upon us!

It kicks off with the Solent Rally on Friday 2nd May. The rally will begin with a race from Shoreham to the forts off of Portsmouth. The rally will then continue on to Cowes where walk ashore pontoons have been reserved for the Solent Rally at the Folly Inn on the River Medina where we will have a group meal at 8pm.

When arriving at the River Medina and passing the port hand market number 10, could all yachts please call ‘Folly Launch’ on VHF channel 72 for berthing instructions. At the Folly Inn we have a group table booked for dinner but everyone should order off of the main menu and pay at the bar. In addition to the main menu they have a special Grill night where a steak and a drink can be ordered from £9.95 per head.  The Grill menu can be found here
On Saturday we have arranged what we hope will be an interesting and exciting treasure hunt sailing around the Solent (details will be given out during dinner on Friday evening) before entering the Beaulieu River for an evening at Gins restaurant at the Royal Southampton Yacht Club (dress code is Cowes Rig). The set menu for our rally at Gins is below, however please let me know if you have any special dietary requirements and require something different to the set menu.

In the Beaulieu river we have arranged 10 walk ashore pontoons plus river moorings. When approaching Gins please call the Bosun on channel 77 with call sign ‘Sea Echo’ and they will give you further direction.

On Sunday we leave the Beaulieu River and head for Itchenor where we will moor up and then go ashore for dinner at the Ship Inn. The Ship Inn have organised a two course dinner for the rally. Please let me have your menu choices from the menu at the bottom of this email by NO LATER THAN FRIDAY 25 APRIL.

If you haven’t already done so, please let me have your boat name and crew names together with their menu choices all by Friday 25 April.

We are also organising fleeces for the Solent Rally with the SYC logo on. They can be purchased for £13 per fleece and can also be ordered with your boat name on. If you would like to order a fleece please let me know the quantity and sizes that you require and whether you would like to include your boat name, along with the exact spelling. I will need to order these straight away to get them in time for the rally so please let me have the quantities required by no later than Thursday 17th April.

I hope to see you all there for what is looking like another great Solent Rally!

The Series is well underway.Still all to play for as with the "flexible"handicapping system those who sail on a regular basis are still in the running for the prizes.If you haven`t got your boat going this year yet why not come out & join us this coming Saturday when it looks like light friendly breezes.Just right to get in some sea time & make sure that all is as it should be.If your not sure of your NHC just turn up & you will be given a start time,which is always on the friendly side for newcomers.

Despite the present weather our pursuiting for 2014 is just round the corner.The same "rules" apply as last year.Pursuiting is a great chance to tune up a crew or welcome new-comers to your boat-even just to have a fun sail with like minded folk.If you have been with us before make sure you look up the dates & come out.If you have never tried this light hearted "racing"you will be made very welcome & could even become addicted.Any questions phone me or even use email if you must.

  Hopefully all competitors will have been told that after the last race in the Series-15th Dec-we will be holding our Prizegiving down at Southwick.This will get going after our locking in.Jennie & her team will be offering a lunch of baked potatoe-choice of fillings-together with hot mince pies.Every entry gets a prize of seasonal quality if they turn up.In the unfortunate event of a blow out-wind not food-the party will still take place around 1230.There will be a bar of cans ect at cost price.Our Captain looks forward to seeing you all down there after the most successful Christmas Cracker for several years.
