Royal Escape Crew/Boat Finder / Could the real Howard Way stand up!
« Last post by SteveV on April 13, 2013, 06:18:56 PM »
I just setup this crew finder section for the Royal Escape after being passed some contact details only to find the email address I had been given for the fellow is bounced back at me... If Howard Way really wants to crew then please register and get yourself on here. Or is it just me thinking Howard Way is an unusual name in a yachting context????

I noticed that at the June MAIN COMMITTEE under membership.
"Dski commented that the membership trend is going down and
SYC needs to work to keep current Members and generate new."
"LW stated that SVís committee needs to look at membership and
how to retain. The Club should be aiming at 1500 Members."
Boats looking for crew / Crew wanted - Shoreham to Brighton
« Last post by JudasHerb on July 25, 2012, 01:50:34 PM »
I bought my first boat this year and am ready to take her out now the sun is back. On a trailer in SYC, a Jaguar 22.

I am looking for someone to crew with me, on a test run from SYC to Brighton Marina to check she's ready and to gain some confidence with her before taking the family out.

I am a confident sailor with my Day Skipper ticket, so looking for competent crew or skippers who'll be happy to keep me company for the journey.

SYC General Discussion / SYC Publicity and Membership Committee

Does the club have a way of tracking new members to ensure they have settled in and are enjoying the club facilities and opportunities - like a form of member retention focus, which would help channel people to find aspects of the club where they fit in and get the most out of it to ensure continued membership ?
Sussex Regatta /

Alot of sense in that. But isnt the point of it so that it can be shared with the 'combined clubs' and their hospitality can be extended to visiting yachtsmen, and facilities can be enjoyed after an invigorating passage to a new destination for a special weekend of camaraderie  etc etc. with eagerly awaited return favours from the next host the following year.

But the reality is perhaps a bit different.

There would need to be some additional aspect of 'combined clubs' to make it special otherwise it will just be another race at Brighton.

And of course there are the clubs' political aspects to overcome.

Anyone else ..... ?

Sussex Regatta / Why do we move it around every year?
« Last post by SteveV on May 11, 2012, 11:06:50 AM »
Why not just base the Sussex Regatta at Brighton? Much as I hate to say it as an SYC member, Brighton is  the best venue by far when dealing with visiting boats and allows racing to carry on pretty much irrespective of tide.

What do we think?
SYC General Discussion / SYC Club Brochure for 2013
« Last post by SteveV on May 11, 2012, 11:03:43 AM »
I have somehow found myself Chairman of the new SYC Publicity and Membership Committee (just me at the moment!) and amongst other things I have a cunning plan for a new glossy club brochure, to be produced at no cost to the membership.

However to make this work I really do need some good photography of all that we do, so to this end if you take a good picture and have suitable images I can use of sailing, boat-yard, cheerful staff,  social events, dining, bar, diving, sailability, club house or just about anything SYC then please let me know.

There's no payment for use but you will be credited - I'm aiming to have this book published early 2013 so there is plenty of time this summer to get clicking.

Oh and I'll need good quality files which rules out camera phones - proper cameras only please.

Either contact me here on the forum or email
